Austin DWI Laws For First Time Offenders:
Monetary Fines: The maximum fine for a first time offender is $2,000.
Jail time: The minimum jail time required for a first time DWI offender is 72 hours. The maximum jail time to be served is 6 months.
Austin Driver's License Suspensions for first
time offenders:
Driving Privileges: A DWI conviction will result in a revocation of your drivers license for 90 days.
Chemical Test Refusal: If you refused to take the breath test (BAC) which was requested by law enforcement, your license can be revoked for up to 180 days.
Commercial Drivers License: A DWI can be charged to a commercial driver by having a BAC above 0.04. If you are a commercial driver and have been charged with a DWI you face a loss of your commercial drivers license for 1 year. Any subsequent offices can cause a lifetime revocation of your license.
Alcohol Classes: You must complete the alcohol and drug remedial education program to reinstate your driving privileges.
